Mom and the manatee

not too much has happened since thursday. I worked friday and saturday...and rhett hung out with the youth group at their car wash and then the guys in our small group for a couple hours.then we went to seaworld last night to see all of their summer nights stuff. the nighttime sealion show is superb.

also for the sake of being discrete, I will simply say that we happened to be at the perfect place at the perfect time at seaworld yesterday to witness a certain event (sorry if this is torture, you can ask me later if you want to know)...and then 3 hours later, when I ran into another educator, the story had already turned into a crazy monster of a rumor (almost nothing like what really happened). It was crazy to see the gossip chain in action. makes you wonder what you should actually believe when people tell stories.

the radio said that "on the list of top 20 angriest cities in america, florida and texas hold the highest number of cities." ha. which is funny because of all that southern hospitality and stuff. everyone down south seems pretty nice to me.

today is a billpaying house cleaning kind of day. yuck.

I had another chance to talk to an animal care girl with the bottlenose dolphins when I swept there (after the dolphin exhibit closes, we staff there to make sure nobody sneaks in). she was awesome and friendly and I loved learning about her job too!

It's weird to watch days and weeks fly by. sometimes it just feels like we are passing time to the future. and I don't even know what that is. Is it august 14 when my seasonal job ends? Is it October when we come visit texas? Is it 4th of july? Sometimes I forget to live today, and live from due date to due date. ah the plague of the planner.

my manly man of a husband changed my oil last week. and I got to practice jacking up the malibu (which I hadn't had to do yet) so now I know all that good stuff about this car.

and anyone who has had the pleasure of eating my family recipe chicken soup (and waiting unreasonably long to do so) I found a new, almost identical recipe that tastes exactly the same in 30 minutes. awesome. excited about eating that more often.

and oh the things you hear as an educator at SeaWorld. the grand finale.

"Mom, you're not as fat as that Mantee."

"Why is there caca in his butt?"

"do boats ever cut manatees in half?"

me: "does anyone have any questions about the stingrays?"
little boy nods: "yes"
me: "alright let's hear it"
little boy: "I saw a dolphin today."

little girl: "what's that shiny circle thing?"
me: "uhh. well, what goes in must come out, and that not its mouth."
little girl: "huh?"
me: "that's its pooper."

happy two's-day!

A.K.A. happy blog day! because I remembered to blog again!

I will be talking in 2's today....even though it's thursday and not twosday. badumbum-ch.

2 things about the doggy. 1) when you place your arm behind his bum, he sits on it. like a major dork. and then you are holding the dog with your arm. 2) I'm not sure if it's more his fault or ours, but sometimes he holds pee too long and then if he gets excited he can't hold it anymore and pees on the floor. except last night it was the bed. gross.

2 new things about church! besides that we love it. 1)our small group went bowling on tuesday which was so super fun. me and rhett are not good at bowling. ha. 2) we will be hosting the college students at our house starting in 3 weeks! we are PSYCHED!!!

2 reasons why I know i'm married to the coolest husband in the whole world. 1)last night he put cheetos on his ice cream. disgustingly awesome. 2) he does THE BEST doug-the-dog voice (like from Up) for Roscoe. It has never not made me smile. it is the funniest thing ever. and as I typed that, i was imagining saying it in dog voice.

2 new seaworld things. 1) I got to talk to a really nice animal care team member for a few minutes today after my narration for her training session with the commerson's dolphins at aquatica. it was so awesome. I love learning about what the other departments do, and dreaming about a seaworld future! 2) there are new sea lion pups! I got to see a 3-day old sealion when I worked on saturday! precious. check out seaworld's facebook page for a guest's picture of one today. bonus) I got my 2nd paycheck today! woohoo!!

2 awesome things: 1) so we saw this awesome dorito's commercial last night. when I youtubed it, it said it was a superbowl commercial, but it was new for me. and hilarious. 2) at the bowling alley, the balls were getting stuck in the ball return. which made for an AWESOME engineering moment when they pulled the floorboards up to get them unstuck. awesome.

happy twosday!!!

updates!

so once again, it's been awhile. even when I have days off, they don't quite feel like days off yet. because now I cram all of my homely responsibilities into my days off. but today, even though the floor needs vacuuming and the wet laundry is waiting to be moved to the dryer, I will be taking it easy.

partly because both Rhett and I both got really sick last night. seaworld is now closing at 10pm, and I have the close shift 3 times this week. to my surprise, there exists a grid that ends at 8:15, even though my schedule says 10:15. if you are lucky enough to get this grid, essentially the last rotation is at an exhibit that closes to the public before the park closes. I got that grid last night! it was nice to have a transition period into the late closes. and, as it turns out, I became ill within 4 minutes of arriving at home. if I hadn't gotten the 8 o'clock grid, I would have been sick at seaworld instead of at home. we are still unsure of the illness causer. it's a mystery for now.

so other news! and there is a lot for 3 weeks! I'll try and do short spurts...and try to keep them in the most chronological order as I can.

I think we left off at us going to the beach. so of course we got a little sun. It was very much hilarious to use the hand vacuum to remove sunburn peels from rhetts shoulders.

my first day of work went well! I'm always a little apprehensive before I get to work, and nervous about messing up...but once I get there and get to talk to people I have such a wonderful time. I very much love the job. later in my first week I had the Aux close shift...which essentially is an extra in case someone is late, doesn't show up, or would like to go home early. and if none of those cases are met, then it gets sent home. as it turns out, I got sent home....but had such a great time in just the 2 hours I was there. we get to go to filler exhibits as an Aux, which are ones we don't normally staff..so I asked for penguins. and the people that go to penguins go there because they REALLY like penguins. so I loved talking to them. right as I was about to switch exhibits, I start talking to this family who very casually tell me about a tour they are going on today. as she is talking, I am starting to realize that she has already missed her tour....which I then have the responsibility of telling her and trying to fix it. in the end, we were able to get them taken care of, and of course that very much made their day...so I had some glowing fans that day.

then we went to visit seaworld for fun! and it was fun! I finally got to see the last 2 shows I hadn't seen, and just have a great date day with the boy.

also that first week...I was driving to work like normal, and I still have put off getting a toll tag (boo) so I went through the toll booth to pay...and who takes my toll? one of rhett's employees at the store! it was too funny, she had her second job for the toll authority! it was awesome.

we got to have our friends over for dinner....and angie we made those yum enchiladas you made us in houston! it was fun and delicious and we love them very much and love you very much.

rhett wanted to grow out a goattee. it was silly. it lasted about 2 days. very cute though.

also, for those of you who don't know what's been going on with our car registration...we took our paperwork to get my car registered here. they said you need a proof of gift from texas. "oh they can fax it to us and you can come back this afternoon." NOT. try "you can mail them some money and they will mail it to you in about 2 weeks." so that's what we did. all the time, trying our best to follow the rules, but committing a misdemeanor by not having florida plates. so my paperwork comes in and i get my plates. and we wait. and wait. and wait. rhett's doesn't show. I finally call again, and after being passed around on the phone, they tell me they have no idea why it never got sent out. our paperwork finally arrived on rhett's truck. after about 6 weeks. on the exact day that rhett got pulled over. ugh. it has been a nightmare. the cop said that he could have arrested rhett...which would have been no good. but it is all taken care of now. i hated watching my first paycheck from seaworld go to those dang license plates though.

roscoe's limp came back on the same leg. only for a few days. we still had some medicine from the last limp so we got him to rest and he is doing fine again. he has some new funny moves....he likes to sleep at our feet on the couch, and he sticks his head underneath the couch where it is dark. so we look over the edge and see all legs. and he tries to eat things on the glass table from underneath. cute.

sunday was an adventure too. after a morning of dancing to the chitty chitty bang bang soundtrack while getting ready for church, rhett and I took on the dryer vent (which was incredibly clogged) and (sorry florida) stupidly is on the roof. how can all the lint fight gravity for 12 feet and still make it out? answer: it can't.

also in a moment of embarrassingly rapping some nursery rhymes to rhett, I also learned that rhett had never learned hey diddle diddle before. so the embarrassment slightly shifted.

I am also remembering the time that we got locked out of our house on the 2nd day we moved here. ha.
